Earlier this year we asked people to email their TDs to urge them to support our campaign to give wind and solar projects two opportunities to apply to connect to the electricity grid.
Until now, the opportunity to apply for a connection only opened for a few weeks every year. If a project was delayed getting planning permission, and missed the window, they would have to wait a whole year to apply again.
Hundreds of emails were sent to our elected representatives and many of you shared the positive responses you got from your local TD backing the campaign.
That means more time lost, more carbon emissions and more imported fossil fuels in our system.
And it made a difference!
But today the electricity regulator – the CRU – has announced that from next year there will be two windows, one in March and one in September, for projects to apply for a connection, helping to accelerate the delivery of renewable energy.
Working together, we can change things; we can make it easier to provide the clean, affordable, electricity we all need and want.
